Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you need dental implants in full mouth reconstruction depends on how many teeth you're missing and the condition of your remaining teeth. During your comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Wansten will assess whether your existing teeth can be restored or if some need to be extracted and replaced with implants for optimal long-term results.
When Dental Implants Are Essential
Dental implants are typically necessary when you have:
- Multiple missing teeth requiring replacement
- Existing teeth that cannot be saved through restoration
- Need for a stable foundation for extensive dental work
- Desire for the most permanent, long-lasting solution
Unlike bridges that rely on adjacent teeth for support, implants replace both the root and crown, providing superior stability and helping preserve your jawbone density. They're often the gold standard for full mouth reconstruction because they function like natural teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care.
Your Personalized Treatment Plan
Some patients achieve excellent results with a combination of implants, crowns, and bridges, while others benefit from implant-supported dentures. The right approach depends on your unique oral health situation, budget, and goals.
If you're considering full mouth reconstruction in East Grand Rapids, call Gaslight Village Family Dentistry at (616) 454-8228 to schedule your comprehensive evaluation. Dr. Wansten will assess your needs and explain all your options, including whether dental implants should be part of your treatment plan.

Nitrous Oxide or "Laughing Gas"
Nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas, is a safe and effective way to help anxious patients feel relaxed during dental procedures. This colorless, odorless gas is mixed with oxygen and delivered through a comfortable nasal mask. You'll remain fully conscious and able to respond, but feel calm and at ease throughout your treatment. Used for everything from cleanings to complex procedures, nitrous oxide wears off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself home afterward.
